The solution for our problems…

A few months back I read a story in which a woman goes to a scholar to seek help because she was constantly miserable and could not get out of her gloomy state of mind because there always was one reason or the other to make her awfully sad and tearful all the time…

The scholar told her that she could get rid of this emotional pain and misery by doing just one act… all she needs to do is to recite surah Al Baqarah at the time of tahajjud for eight consecutive days…

The woman was shocked and said no she couldn’t possibly be up at that time and recite that long surah… it just was not possible…

So the scholar replied… then be prepared to live with sadness if that is easier for you…

This story stuck in my mind and I thought how great it would be if I could do this therapy for my own emotional and spiritual health… but it remained a wish until I heard a lecture in which the teacher was explaining a Hadith about the merits of Surah Al Baqarah… I had heard that Hadith before many times… but never understood it like I did that day…

Those were most powerful words that kept echoing in my mind… the Prophet (s.a.w) said… “do not make your homes into graveyards… recite Surah Al Baqarah… its recitation will bring immense blessings… and to forsake it will bring regret and hopelessness…

The teacher who was explaining the hadith said that although we read Quran daily but we should also reserve some time slot to recite surah al baqarah too… even if it is one page daily. She said that the main thing is that we remain connected with this surah… and one excellent method to do so is to start memorizing it… even if it is one ayah daily… even if it takes you one year to memorize or even ten years… it doesn’t matter. But the important thing is that when you are in the process of memorization you stay connected with the surah… and by repeating the words again and again you will get the true essence of its message engraved in your heart and will make you strong and healthy… spiritually, emotionally and mentally…

Also the fact that the word used by the Prophet (s.a.w) is “graveyard”… what does it imply? A gloomy place… empty and sad… full of a feeling of loss and regret…

Just analyse the state of homes today where there is no love or laughter among family members… they are just existing under one roof but there is no joy in their mutual relationships… anger, resentment, dislike… contempt and disrespect… sadness and despair… mentally isolated and lonely… no hope of help or support from anyone… loss and regret…

Its because of being cut off from the life support system which Allah revealed for us and kept it safe and uncontaminated… pure and original… for us to take help from… for us to clean and de-junk our hearts and souls… because relationships are created with hearts and if these hearts are polluted then there can be no true bonding… so we need to purify our hearts so that we can feel and rejoice in the blessings of Allah… so then we will be able to see and feel the goodness of all those people around us… and then we can be happy in their company and live a wholesome life…

It all starts from our relationship with the Quran and specially surah Al Baqarah which is the peak of the Quran as described by our Prophet (s.a.w)

So start today and let the miracle begin… in sha Allah
