Let go…

Yesterday I read an amazing quote which taught me a most effective way to control my anger…as well as other negative emotions…

It goes like this:

A man cursed Umar Bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) And he responded by saying: “If it wasn’t for the day of Qiyamah I would have answered you!”

What a simple but most profound statement it is…yet how much faith and conviction does it take to remember the accountability of that great day which is surely going to come… we all admit it in words but do we have this feeling in our heart too? Especially when it comes to our hurt ego? can we hold back our anger at such times?

So what can we learn now that can positively affect our hearts?

  • The first and foremost thing which captivated me was that even men of such high caliber can feel the urge to express their anger and take revenge… but their greatness lies in the way they control themselves. This is important to note because we ordinary beings tend to assume that these pious people were immune to human emotions and so that’s the reason for their beautiful Akhlaq… as if they didn’t have to work for it… but the fact is that they were human too but still they didn’t give in to the push of the nafs to take revenge…so it means that we can do it too if we want to…

  • Secondly the thing to note is that the belief in the day of judgement is such a comfort…when we know that every injustice is going to be recompensed so why then should we bother to respond evil by evil?

  • Thirdly it is a reflection of how careful a true believer needs to be in taking revenge… because if your response exceeds the limit then you will have to pay for it… so why should we let ourselves get into trouble because of the mistakes of others?

Therefore whenever someone is mean to you or is being unfair or unreasonable then just remind yourself that the day of judgement is coming very soon and Allah will not forget or ignore even the slightest of pain that we went through…

And for those who controlled their anger and remained patient… he has prepared such rewards that no eye has seen and no ears have ever heard of and no mind has ever thought of…

So are you willing to let go?
