“weather” good or bad…

Long time back I heard my teacher say the following words: “when someone says or does something unpleasant, just don’t take it to heart… get busy in doing something positive instead… every unpleasant thing is just like a spell of bad weather… you don’t sit and brood over it… rather you take whatever measures you can to minimize its effects… and keep on doing the good which will bring you everlasting joys and pleasures in the hereafter”

Those words really went deep into my heart and I thought how easy things would be if we do not give them undue attention…

But then there are people for whom this example is not much comforting… because they have a habit of not just complaining against people but will also talk against the weather conditions as if the weather is there by its own will… and is making life difficult for them on purpose!! while the fact is that it is from the will of Allah almighty and His knowledge is perfect… He knows what we need better than us…

And this is true not just for weather but every single thing we need in our lives… sometimes people are also like the weather… they are the way they are because Allah made them so… and they are in our lives for a purpose…

Complaining against them and filling the mind and heart with resentment is like blaming the weather…

But surely it is tough to always remember this truth… because apparently human beings appear to have control of how they behave… so we expect them to be fair and sensible… but if everybody was the way we wanted them to be then where would have been our test of patience? and how could have we earned the unimaginable reward that has been prepared for the Sabireen…(the ones who displayed patience and perseverance)?

The problem is that we tend to forget these things over and over again and the only cure is to accept that we are human and so we cannot aim for perfection… because if we expect perfection from our own self or from others… in both cases we will be disappointed and frustrated… just like you will go mad if you expect the weather to be always perfectly pleasant… it simply cannot happen here because it is the place of test… neither people nor the weather can remain at their best…

Perfection is only in Jannah… and it will be a gift for those who put up with the imperfections of people and situations with utmost patience and excellence…

May we be one of them too… ameen
