be humble; be guided

But how (will it be) when the angels take their souls at death, and smite their faces and their backs? (47:27)

These are the words of warning from Allah which really made me cry when I was reciting Quran today…

Even as a child I could not bear to see anyone being scolded or beaten… I remember once I asked my younger brother who was about 6 at the time to get me something… while he got busy in that he forgot to pick his school bag from the way… and my mother who was holding a roll of chart paper in her hand just banged his back with that… it was just paper so all it did was to startle him… but to my small heart it was a huge shock and so the whole day I could not eat anything out of grief that my baby brother had been hurt because of me…

If such a small act can hurt so much then what will be the beating of angels who are so massive in size and power… so do I care enough for my loved ones to save them from that?

But then what is that crime for which this punishment will come…??

The crime is to do what angers Allah

And to hate what he loves… the next ayah says it all…

“This because they followed that which called forth the Wrath of Allah, and they hated Allah’s good pleasure; so He made their deeds of no effect.” (47:28)

The thing is that we all make mistakes but in this case the person is casually taking things for granted and not caring whether Allah is being angry or not…

Even if such people are told not to indulge in these dangerous acts… they will just shrug their shoulders and say things like “what is so wrong with this?” it’s just the mullahs who make everything so hard… Allah is so merciful… Islam is so easy… etc…

And on the other hand when they are invited to do things which Allah loves… like working together in the way of Allah… they cannot even bear to be reminded about things which they don’t like…

So their own likes and dislikes are far more important for them than what Allah likes or not…

And Allah hates this attitude so much that he wont give any credit to any good deeds done with such pride in the heart…

Therefore the first and foremost thing we must pay attention to is the fact that our attitude is the most important thing… if we have true humbleness in our hearts and we remain in awe of Allah… always wondering whether he is being pleased with me or not… always being cautious not to do anything which might make Him angry… then he will really give us the guidance to do great things…

But if we assume that we are right and our own intellect is enough to guide us what is good for us and what is not then Allah will not guide us at all…

May Allah save us from wasting our lives in illusions and help us to attain true humbleness and Taqwa… ameen
