We are all so familiar with the solar system and its planets revolving around the sun… but did you know that there is not just one but seven earths? How is that!!
Well it is something which the scientists have yet to discover but Allah told us more than 14 centuries ago:
Allah is He Who created seven Heavens and of the earth a similar number. Through the midst of them (all) descends His Command: that ye may know that Allah has power over all things, and that Allah comprehends, all things in (His) Knowledge. (65:12)
Some might ask, but how can it be so?
Well the answer is in the same ayah… Allah has power over all things so he can create whatever he wishes… and he is the only one who has the knowledge of all things… we don’t know anything beyond what he has made evident to us.
But of course the knowledge of our Prophet (s.a.w) was the most advanced because he got his education directly from Allah through the angel Gibraiel… Like we see in the following Hadith from the book of creation in Sahih Bukhari :
Narrated Salim’s father:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Any person who takes a piece of land unjustly will sink down the seven earths on the Day of Resurrection.”
Another Hadith which speaks of the same number of earths is the following:
Narrated Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Al-Harith:
from Abu Salama bin `Abdur-Rahman who had a dispute with some people on a piece of land, and so he went to `Aisha and told her about it. She said, “O Abu Salama, avoid the land, for Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, ‘Any person who takes even a span of land unjustly, his neck shall be encircled with it down seven earths.’ “
The beauty of the Prophets (s.a.w) teachings is that in just one sentence he not only taught about Allah power of creation but also its implication on us… that if anyone takes hold of other people’s property even as little as a hands span then the consequences are unimaginably painful… imagine just one big rock weighing you down… and then the number of rocks in one range of mountains… and the number of mountains on this one earth… and the weight of the oceans and of all the animals and people and buildings… and then multiply all this weight seven times… all this weighing you down and down… why? Because you were not afraid of Allah and His punishment…you thought you could get away on the day of judgement just like you got away in this world?
Today people take other people’s things so lightly but the punishment of Allah is very heavy indeed…
May Allah help us to internalize these warnings so much that being unfair to anyone would become unthinkable for us… ameen…
