The real treasure: A sound heart

وَلَا تُخْزِنِي يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ

And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;-

يَوْمَ لَا يَنْفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ

The Day when neither wealth nor sons will be of any benefit,

إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart;

This is part of a dua of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) recorded in Surah Ash-Shu’ara (87-89).

When I read these eye opening words, I think to myself that why are we so blind to the teachings of Quran?

How clearly Allah has told us the truth but still our direction in life is not clear because we want to live in illusions and don’t want to face the reality?? We like to think that having wealth and sons will make us successful and we will “live happily ever after” (the favourite line of fairy tales)

But Allah has stated so clearly that these things are not going to benefit us at all if we do not have a pure heart… So if there is ONE thing which needs our utmost attention then that is the preservation of our heart…

But how many of us actually think, work and pray for a pure heart?

So what is a sound heart?

Simply translated this should be a heart free from evil… a heart that is not diseased by sins… a heart full of faith in Allah… a heart free from all kinds of shirk… full of love for Allah and His Prophet (s.a.w)…

A heart free from jealousy, grudges, resentments or hatred for fellow human beings…

A heart that believes in the hereafter… A heart that is not constricted with selfishness… Nor is deluded by the glamour and glitter of this world; because it is not blind to the ultimate truth…

So how can we attain this true and pure heart?

By remaining away from sins of all kinds;

By protecting our eyes and ears;

By thinking good of others;

By reading, understanding and listening to Quran;

By being in the company of righteous people..

May Allah help us all to make our hearts pure so that we can become really successful in the true sense of the word… (Ameen)

    • No its not… because you know that Allah will protect you and compensate you with a reward that you cannot even imagine.
      Also we can analyse that most of the time it is our over protectiveness of personal interests that makes us over imaginative and we become judgemental about people. Even a small error seems like a crime… and thats the reason why we don’t have good relationships in families or workplaces etc. We need to make space for others if we really want Islam to prosper because it cannot happen without unity and brotherhood. And brotherhood is possible only with a lot of patience, openheartedness and forgiveness… hope that answers your question!! Thanks for making me think and write:):)
